Netball: Nanyonga, Meeme dropped from She Cranes squad
The Uganda Netball Federation has dropped up to seven players from the team that featured at the Netball World Cup two months ago in Liverpool, UK.
The 12 named will travel to Cape Town, South Africa for the 2019 Africa Netball Championship scheduled for October 18-22, 2019.
The players dropped include team captain Peace Proscovia who under went knee surgery in Australia on Tuesday after an injury sustained while on duty with Australian League side Sunshine Coast Lightning, as well as her deputy wing defender Lilian Ajio who was not summoned because of injury.
NIC’s trio of Rachael Nanyonga, Ruth Meeme and Betty Kizza all don’t make the final 12,as does KCCA’s goal keeper Muhaimuna Namuwaya and Prison’s wing defender Sylvia Nanyonga.
Goal shooter Irene Eyaru who was a reserve at the Netball World Cup gets the nod and is joined by Privas Kayey, Irene Mirembe, Fauzia Nakibuule, Shaffie Nalwajja, Martha Soigi and Police’s Hindu Namutebi as debutants.
The Africa Netball Championship will attract eight nations including hosts South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania.
Pool A includes hosts South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and Lesotho while Uganda is drawn in Pool B with Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania.
