Johnny McKinstry is the new Uganda Cranes coach

Northern Irishman, Johnny McKinstry,34, has been appointed as the new Uganda national football team, the Cranes.

French international, Sebastien Desabre in July quit the job as the Cranes tactician to join Egyptian moneybags, Pyramids FC.

On Monday morning, FUFA announced results of the vetting committee headed by former Zambian player Kalusha Bwalya and the Northern Irishman has emerged the successful candidate.

FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson said after Desabre’s resignation, they received 137 applications for the national team coach before zeroing on the McKinstry.

“We selected a coach who fits in our vision of being the number one footballing nation in Africa on and off the pitch,” Edgar said.

The former Rwandan national team coach said he was honored to have been appointed the new Cranes coach.

“There is no doubt that the Cranes job is one of the best in international football across Africa. I am excited to be here. The players here are the group I believe we can achieve a lot with,”McKnistry said after being unveiled.

'We need to improve players and the team. We need to go to the World Cup as well. We are hungry for success.”
