Over 40 police officers transferred in latest changes

The Inspector-General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola has transferred at least 40 police officers from various positions and handed them new tasks in the latest Police changes.

According to a message dated September 25, singed by the new Police Human Resource Director, Col.Jesse Kamunanwire, Commissioner of Police, Herman Owomugisha, who has been the commander, Very Important Persons Protection Unit (VIPPU) has been transferred to the Field Force Unit (FFU) as the operations commander.

Prior to the transfer, Owomugisha has previously served as the Police Flying Squad Unit commander and the Anti- Terrorism unit commandant for Entebbe airport among other positions in the police force.

The latest changes have seen Commissioner of Police, Hadija Namutebi who has been under the Chief Political Commissariat is now the new VIPPU commander.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Moses Otaala has been moved from VIPPU to the Police Directorate of Welfare and Production as the officer in charge mobilization and coordination to Operation Wealth Creation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Patrick Lawot who had no deployment after being sent to the Human Resource Management at the Naguru police headquarters has now been appointed the deputy commandant for the VIPPU.

Others are Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anatoli Muleterwa who has been appointed as the acting Commissioner Community Affairs whereas Assistant Superintendent of Police Georgestone Katsigaire has been transferred from Olilim to head the Kabalye Police Training School farm projects under the welfare and production directorate.

Katonga region spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Phillip Mukasa has been appointed District Police Commander Apac whereas Superintendent of Police, Richard Tamale has been moved from the Field Force Unit to greater Masaka region as the Deputy Regional Police Commander.

Superintendent of Police Moses Okello has been transferred from the Field Force Unit to Wamala region as the Deputy Regional Police Commander.

Since taking over as the police chief in 2018, Martin Okoth Ochola has made a number of changes and re-organizations in the police force aimed at streamlining the force that President Museveni a few years ago described as being infiltrated by criminals.

A number of people have always argued that many police commanders have overstayed in their positions which has stagnated work but Ochola has tackled the same by moving them to other areas.

The new police leadership has also reversed a number of reshuffles that had been effected during the term of former IGP, Gen.Kale Kayihura.
