Immigration directorate cautions the public against using brokers to acquire documents

The ministry of Internal Affairs has warned the public against using agents/borkers to acquire immigration documents like passports and work permits.

This comes after the directorate of citizenship and immigration control arrested five people including staff for forgery.

The officials made the remarks at the press conference in Kampala yesterday.

The Directorate of Citizenship Immigration council chair Maj. Gen. Apollo Kasiita, said they had noted fraudulent acts by unscrupulous individuals purporting to offer their services to the general public.

“They always convince applicants including unsuspecting Ugandans and foreigners that they can improve or influence their chances of being considered and approval but for a fee,” he said.

He called upon the public to be vigilant about such kind of people and also clarified that Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration does not work with agents or dealers.

Jacob Simunyu, the spokesperson the ministry of Internal Affairs said some people were arrested with forged documents.

“We went and arrested some people with different forged documents for different organisations," he said.

The suspects were arrested with documents such as stickers, bank documents, bank statements, immunisation cards, passports among others.
