Officer demoted for trying to smuggle candidate into police recruitment exercise

A police officer has been demoted for trying to change results and smuggle someone into the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

Sergeant Francis Akullo was arrested by police last week in Lira and arraigned before the police disciplinary court that subsequently recommended for his demotion.

“He was trying to alter results of the successful candidates to help someone join the list. He was later demoted from Sergeant to corporal,” police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said on Monday.

Police recently announced a recruitment exercise for at least 4000 constables and 500 learner Assistant Inspector of Police (AIPs).

The minimum requirement for constables is a Uganda Advanced Certificate in Education(UACE) whereas the minimum requirement for AIPs is a diploma in information technology, nursing and forensics sciences.

The police, however, lowered the academic requirement for constables from A- Level Certificate to Uganda Certificate of Education (O-level certificate).

The police spokesperson said on Monday that the exercise had been successfully concluded, noting that the list of successful candidates will now be sent to UNEB for verification of their documents before the same is sent to police council for approval.
