Floods cut off roads in Bundibugyo before Museveni visit to area, Kagina runs to rescue situation

Transport in Bundibugyo has been paralyzed following heavy rains which washed away at least six bridges and caused roads to crack.

According to reports from locals in the area; Nyahuka Town Council, Kisuba, Kirumya, Ngamba, and Mabere sub-counties have been the most affected following the heavy rains which burst River Chabi’s banks, resulting into sweeping away of bridges.

Also affected in the Fort-Portal Bundibugyo road which developed cracks. As a result, the said road has been partially closed.

This is made worse by fact that President Museveni is expected in the region for his wealth creation campaign.

According to an NRM councilor in Nyahuka Town Council, they have been informed to prepare for the President's visit which is ‘soon’. On further pushing for information, the councilor who preferred anonymity said: “When he comes from where he is, he will be here.”

Nile Post understands that president Museveni is in Kabale for his wealth creation campaign from where he will head to Kasese and regions surrounding. We, however, can’t confirm when he will be in Bundibugyo.

However, if the comments are to go by, UNRA ED Allen Kagina dashed to Bundibugyo to ensure temporary repairs on the roads that have been cut off.

According to a statement from UNRA; Kagina is on-site to support the team working on restoration works along Fortportal-Bundibugyo road.”

“Temporary reinstatement of the affected section will follow shortly to ensure business continuity,” the statement elaborates.
