Former MP Kipoi threatens to drag Parliament to court for Shs460M

Former Bubulo West MP Tonny Kipoi Nsubuga has written to Parliament notifying them of his intention to drag them to court over Shs460 million.

Kipoi was in 2012 arrested and charged with treason for allegedly recruiting youths from both Uganda and DRC as rebels in a bid to depose the Ugandan government but was later released on bail but jumped it and fled to DRC.

In 2014, Parliament three him out of the August House for missing 15 sittings without justifying his absence.

In a July 18 letter through his lawyers to the Parliamentary Commission, Kipoi says before he was thrown out parliament, he was entitled to certain emoluments, privileges and others payables as a legislator but notes these were deducted from his account without his consent.

“Our client’s emoluments amounting to shs254 million and mileage amounting to shs214 million were deducted by your office from his account without were deducted from his account without his knowledge, authority and consent thereby depriving him of his entitlements,” Kipoi says in the letter.

Kipoi’s lawyers say his capacity to perform his duties and his decent source of earning as a Member of Parliament was crippled thus suffering psychological torture, financial torture and stress.

“Please be informed that your office is directly liable either alone or in connivance with some individuals or companies for the fraudulent transactions on our client’s account and the effects thereof.”

In the letter, Kipoi listed over 50 transactions made from his accounts in a questionable manner without his consent.

Speaking to the Nile Post, Kipoi’s lawyer, Shaban Sanywa said even the manner in which the legislator was kicked out of parliament is questionable because he was never given a fair trial.

“He was never heard. Parliament never wrote to him so he could explain himself. He got problems but Parliament never assisted him as a Member of Parliament, "Sanywa said.
