D-DAY: Eight games lined up as Uganda Premier League climaxes
Football fans around the country will today be treated to a host of matches as the StarTimes Uganda Premier League climaxes today with match day 30.
At the StarTimes stadium, KCCA FC will be playing for formality as they host Maroons FC having been confirmed this year’s champions but will use the occasion to be crowned.
Despite Kasasiro boys gaffer Mike Mutebi saying he wants to finish the league on a high by winning today’s game, he might opt to use youngsters in the game against the prisons side.
The end of the game will see fans join players in celebration for the Kasasiro boys’ 13th premier league title after dethroning Vipers SC who won the league last season.
Fight for 3rd place
At the Kavumba Recreation Ground, hosts Tooro United will seek to dethrone tax collectors Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club from the third position.
Going into the game, URA are third on 50 points, just two above Wasswa Bbosa’s men and whoever wins will finish in the third position. Having beaten record champions SC Villa in their previous game, Toor United will go into the game with something to boast about but on the other side, Doris Akol’s boys will be priding over their unbeaten record away this season.
The game on Saturday afternoon will therefore be an affair of no love lost between the two teams.
Vipers play for nothing
At the St.Mary’s stadium in Kitende Vipers Sports Club who won the league last season will have nothing to play for as they host Jinja based BUL FC in another match day 30 game in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Vipers are comfortably seated in the second position with 56 points, six above third placed URA FC and the result from Kitende will not matter to them having lost the title to KCCA FC.
Apart from trying to end the league on a winning note infront of their home fans, Vipers will have nothing else to play for having completed the season empty-handed.
The relegated league say goodbyes
For new entrants, Ndejje University, Nyamityobora and Paidha Black Angels, they will play their respective games as a way of wishing goodbyes to the Uganda Premier League having been relegated.
Ndejje University will visit Kirinya Jinja SS at the Mighty Arena in Jinja whereas Nyamityobora will visit record champions SC Villa at Namboole.
For Paidha Black Angels will wind up their journey in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a visit to Bright Stars in Mwererwe.
They will arguably try to put up good shows as one of the things they will always be remembered for as they return to the FUFA Big League where they will ply their trade next season.
They will seek to wind up their tours of duty in the top flight league on a higher note but this is not guaranteed considered they are all playing away from home.
