Not all of you will ever become generals- UPDF soldiers warned

The Chief of Defence Forces in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Gen.David Muhoozi has warned soldiers that promotions don’t always come so easily.

Speaking to the newly passed platoon commanders at the Bihanga Military Training School in Ibanda district, Gen. Muhoozi said new ranks come with trainings attained, number of years served, discipline and appointments held among other requirements.

"For example not all of you will make it to general core but a few lucky ones will and that's not how the army works,”Gen.Muhoozi told the platoon commanders.

“The carrier paths you will take such as the different appointments and levels of training among others will be determining factors but we must nevertheless continue serving the country in different capacities."

The Chief of Defence Forces urged the newly passed commanders to jealously defend the country using the knowledge and skills acquired from the training.

He told them that the course attended gives them the full powers to command soldiers and protect Ugandans with their properties.

.Gen.Muhoozi congratulated them upon the successful completion of the course but noted that the platoon commanders’ course is only a career progression course and that many more courses are yet to come.

The Commandant Bihanga Training School Brig James B Ruheesi told said the course commenced on 7, January 2019 and ran up to 26th April 2019.

He noted that of the 219 students who joined the course, 213 were passed out after the rest were discontinued on medical and discipline grounds.

Brig.Ruheesi said objective of the course was to equip students with leadership skills and to prepare them for future tasks as officers.

The best performing students were awarded prizes with the overall best being Lt Dan Namanya.

The best in class was Lt Biribawa Betty Ngobi, the exemplary leadership award went to Capt Yashir Buga while the best female student was Lt Josephine Nabulemu and the best in the field was Lt Nicholas Akandwanaho.

Gen David Muhoozi was accompanied by the Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu who warned the commanders of the big task awaiting them.
