UWA 'captures' terror crocodile at Luzira

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) yesterday finally apprehended one of the crocodiles that have been terrorising residents on Namalusu Island at Luzira. Residents said there are two terror crocodiles.

History has it that these crocodiles have been devouring not only their domestic animals but also the people themselves.

The captured crocodile was taken to Murchison Falls National Park for tourism.

Some of the residents could not hide their excitement saying the action has saved them from harm.

"We are happy that they have taken away such a monster because it would have killed us all," said one of the residents of Namalusu.

However even with the excitement, some claimed they have rights over this crocodile and deserved to either be paid or have the crocodile slaughtered for meat.

"They would have given us the crocodile for meat. We would have sold it and gotten money but now it has been taken to the wild," they said.

However, Oswald Tumanye the animal expert who helped in the capture of the crocodile said they need to be preserved for tourism.

"These animals should not be eaten because most times their meat is poisonous and on the other hand, these animals should be kept as reserve.’’

Namalusu Island being an area surrounded by a water body is always at a risk of being invaded by animals living in the water bodies.
