Official who run down Air Uganda appointed technical advisor for Uganda Airlines

Featured

Members of Parliament yesterday questioned how Cornwell Muleya, the former chief executive officer of Air Uganda that had its license suspended by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) over safety concerns, was picked as the technical advisor for the revived Uganda Airlines.

MPs on the Physical Infrastructure Committee tasked the minister for Works and Transport, Monica Azuba and her deputy, Aggrey Bagiire to explain the circumstances under which Muleya got the job.

Azuba and Bagiire had appeared before the committee to explain the delay to deliver the bombardier planes that had been expected in the country on April 8.

Azuba told the MPs that one of the reasons for the delay was because they were still waiting for President Museveni to give them an appropriate time when he will be available.

Museveni is expected to officiate at the function to  receive the planes on April 23 at 3.00 PM.

Yet the bigger issue appeared to be the appointment of Muleya as technical advisor of the Uganda Airlines.

Some MPs said that Muleya had a questionable record and was not fit for the role.

Muleya was at the helm of Air Uganda , a company that had its license suspended over safety concerns as they reportedly hired unqualified people to handle the critical sector.

The matter is still in court.

The MPs appeared suspicious of the ministers who have previously been caught in a lot of awkward situations including the time when they tabled fake documents related to the registration of Uganda Airlines.
