Munyagwa chairs Cosase, settles in nicely

Mubarak Munyagwa, the Kawempe South MP also the new chairperson of parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) has said the committee shall be split into two to handle the work backlog.

Munyagwa who chaired the committee as it interfaced with officials from Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) said out of more than 100 government entities audited last year, Abdu Katuntu and his team handled only nine entities.

Munyagwa said they had communicated their intentions to the speaker who is yet to approve the process of hiring a new venue for the second sub-committee sittings.

The other sub-committee of preferably ten members will have to harmonise their findings with the main committee when they get to the stage of writing reports and recommendations.

This strategy, the committee said, is intended to quicken up the handling of queries.

Meanwhile on his first day as chairperson of COSASE, Munyagwa cracked jokes although at times he put on a serious face.

As the session progressed, Paul Mwiru the Jinja East MP seemed to dominate the proceedings as Munyagwa and Ibrahim Kasozi, his deputy settled into their roles.
