Museveni, NRM in talks with China Communist Party

President Museveni who is also the Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), yesterday held talks with a delegation from the Communist Party of China.

The meeting that took place at Gulu State Lodge was also attended by the NRM officials led by the Secretary General (SG), Kasule Lumumba as well as Uganda’s ambassador to China and former defence minister, Crispus Kiyonga.

Also present was; Deputy SG Hon Richard Todwong, the National Treasurer Rose Namayanja and the Deputy Treasurer, Kenneth Omona.

Museveni told the delegation to pick out the potential benefits for relationship between the people of Uganda and China

“As I have said before, the populations of China and Africa are at the crux of any efforts towards socio-economic development through trade.  It is therefore important for both peoples to identify areas with comparative advantage to bring about balanced trade between the two blocks, giving attention to the basic requisite linkages like infrastructure,” he said.

The delegation led by Buyina Chaola, the CPC secretary praised Museveni for the progress in Uganda, calling him a ‘good leader engineering historical achievements in Uganda.’

The group expressed interest in textile, tourism and automobile assembly tow which Museveni said: “Uganda is the right place, and this is the right time. As Uganda airlines starts operations soon, we shall suggest to have at least one direct flight to Guangzhou every week, to facilitate trade.”

School to train NRM cadres

The CPC delegation pledged support to the ruling party through training cadres. Party cadres will through an exchange program, travel to China and learn development skills.

“We have discussed issues of setting up a party school so that we have a curriculum that can help members of NRM, not only on issues of ideology but also to fight poverty,” Lumumba said earlier.

The party was visiting the NRM leadership, and holding benchmarking talks, exploring historical ties and the existing challenges we must deal with.
