We shall deliver age limit judgment soon- Supreme Court responds to Mabirizi

The Supreme Court in Kololo has written to lawyer Male Mabirizi assuring him that the outcome of the age limit appeal will be delivered soon.

Mabirizi, who is one of the appellants wrote to the Chief Justice demanding for answers over the delayed judgment on the age limit appeal.

However, in response, the court has said they are working on the appeal and that they would give their ruling soon.

“Reference is made to your communication requesting for reasons why judgment has not been delivered within 60 days. This is to inform you that the judgment in the said appeal is being processed by  justices of the court and at the appropriate time, parties to the appeal will be notified to receive the same,” reads in part a letter dated March 29 by the court registrar Anguardia Opifeni.

The developments come at a time when the Nile Post has been told by a source that the Chief Justice, who heads the Supreme Court is unwell.

Sources told this website that Katureebe, the head of government’s third organ, was flown out of the country early this month to South Africa where he had a minor surgery for an undisclosed ailment.

Katureebe returned to the country but he is still evidently unwell.

For close to a month Owiny Dollo, his deputy, has been acting chief justice.

Last year, the Constitutional Court sitting in Mbale in a 4:1 decision, upheld the scrapping of the presidential age limit clauses from the Constitution by Parliament  prompting a  group of three parties including the Uganda Law Society, lawyer Male Mabirizi and 6 opposition MPs led by Winnie Kiiza  to challenge  the decision before the Supreme Court.

After hearing the appeal, the Supreme Court in January said it would deliver its judgment in the matter on notice.
