VIDEO: 1056 police cadets remain undeployed 2 years after recruitment

The fate of over 1000 undeployed police officers lies in balance two years and five months after serving out the compulsory six months’ probation in the Uganda Police Force.

The over 1056 cadets joined the police on 1st July 2015, and were passed out on 10th September 2016.

The matter was raised in parliament because since they were passed out, the cadets have never been deployed,  promoted or received their public service benefits.

The matter was raised by legislator Odonga Otto to the speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga for consideration.

At the pass out ceremony in 2016, the event was graced over 3000 cadets but half of these are still awaiting deployment in the Uganda Police Force.

The Minister of Internal Affairs Obiga Kania explained to the House that the delay was purely done to lack of funds. He said that all these cadets would in time receive their promotions and benefits.

The speaker of Parliament referred the matter to the Budget committee for monitoring. Efforts to reach out to police bosses where futile by press time.
