VIDEO: Zuma talks to Mugabe; “He is under house arrest,” he says

South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has said his counterpart Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe is currently “confined in his home” as his ousting from the presidential seat he has held for the last 37 years starts to look inevitable.

Zuma mentioned in a video that he has already contacted Mugabe whom he says is fine but under house detention.

“I have contacted Mugabe whom I had turned to talk to and he is fine but confined in his home. I have also managed to get the briefing about the situation in Zimbabawe,” Zuma said.

“But given the seriousness of the situation I have sent an envoy to meet with President Mugabe and to contact the leaders of the ZDF so that we have a clearer picture of what’s happening,” Zuma added.

President Zuma also confirmed that he will be sending another envoy to the President of Angola Joao Laurenco to brief him as the chairperson of the organ of SADC on peace and security so that there is a closer interaction between the block and Zimbabwe.

“I am hoping that the defence force will be able to respect the constitution of Zimbabwe as well as the people of Zimbabwe so that the situation does not escalate,” Zuma adds.
