The Ministry of Health (MoH) has responded to yesterday’s demonstration at Kiruddu Hospital over the sewerage overflow led by Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana.

Speaking to the Nile Post, MoH senior public officer Emmanuel Ainebyona says the legislator should not politicise the issues of the hospital.

He says the hygiene of the hospital and surrounding areas has improved greatly since the facility acquired a waste truck that empties the septic tanks five times a day.
MP Ssewanyana charged that three billion shillings had been disbursed to solve sewerage crisis at Kiruddu hospital but no work seems to have been done.
Ainebyona explains that while the money was released, there have been challenges with construction of the waste treatment plant because of land disputes.

Initially the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) handled the acqusition of the land, but half way through the process the land contested by squatters. This is an issue Buganda Land Board, original owner of the land, is resolving. Kiruddu hospital falls under KCCA to which MoH released the money to acquire the land.
MoH now anticiapates that by the end of year, the waste treatment plant will be operational which will solve the sewerage crisis that has become the bane of the community that lives around hospital.
