Museveni warns 'fools' thinking of destabilising Uganda

President Museveni has warned that anybody who wants to attack Uganda or destabilizing peace in the East African country should think twice.

Speaking during the 38th Tarehe Sita celebrations in Kitgum on Wednesday afternoon, Museveni said government will not hesitate dealing with whoever wants to destabilize the peace being enjoyed by Ugandans.

“When I read intelligence reports I feel pity for Africans. Anybody who thinks can disturb Uganda, they are destroying themselves,”Museveni said.

“For us we never attack anybody who is innocent but if you are foolish and think you can destabilize Uganda, you will destroy yourself.”

The president said security is following up on “those” killing people in Kampala adding that they have nowhere to run to because they will soon be nipped in the bud.

On February 6 1981, a group of 40 fighters with 27 guns attacked Kabamba barracks in a bid to seize weapons that would late be used in the five year guerilla war that ushered  the NRM government to power.

The attack on Kabamba barracks gave birth to the National Reistance Army which later metamorphosed into the current Uganda People’s Defence Forces(UPDF) and the  Tarehe Sita( sixth day) is celebrated every year.

Speaking in Kitgum, Museveni said in the past, armies lacked some qualities and this he said contributed to their failure to bring about total peace in Uganda.

“Running a country is like treating a patient that you must diagnose the problem of the patient but if you don’t do it, the treatment cannot be right. There had been attempts earlier to form a national army for Uganda but some elements might have been missing something and that’s why they made many mistakes.”

“When we came, we first answered what sort of army the country needed.”

Museveni said when the NRA came to power, they presented qualities of a patriotic and Pan Africanist army that believed in the spirit of Uganda and eventually they won’t hearts of Ugandans.

“We had to put in place an army that works for democracy and social transformation of society. We had to put in place one which has disciplined. One we had an army with all these qualities, we were able to form a strong army.”
