The 2026 Run will take place on Sunday, 30 August 2026, starting at 6:00 a.m. at Kololo Independence Grounds and in major towns across Uganda. Held under the theme “Gwanga Mujje”, this year’s campaign is targeting UGX 5 billion and 100,000 participants to help complete the Cancer Treatment Centre at St Francis Hospital Nsambya.
The centre is being developed to expand access to specialist cancer treatment. Its planned facilities include bunkers for two Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machines used in advanced radiotherapy, critical diagnostic equipment and specialist capacity to deliver timely care.
Cancer affects far more than a patient’s health. It places pressure on families, incomes and entire communities. Our UGX 15 million contribution will support Rotary’s work to expand treatment capacity, while our branch network will make it easier for Ugandans across the country to take part.”
Hamza Mutebi, Chief Executive Officer, SWICO noted.
Part of SWICO’s healthcare commitment
The UGX 15 million contribution is aligned with healthcare, one of the central pillars of SWICO’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme. SWICO’s approach to CSR is to connect the company’s resources with real community needs rather than treating support as a one-off donation. The financial contribution is therefore being reinforced by the company’s physical reach, staff and communication channels to support cancer awareness, treatment and wider public participation.
SWICO will mobilise employees, customers, intermediaries and business partners to participate in the Run and support the wider campaign. The company will also use its public platforms to share information about the cause and encourage early attention to cancer risks.
Making Cancer Run kits easier to access
As an official distributor, SWICO will make Cancer Run kits available through designated branches across Uganda. With the largest branch network among insurance companies in the country, SWICO is well placed to extend kit sales beyond Kampala and give more people a convenient way to support the campaign.
Standard participation kits are on sale from UGX 30,000. Participants can take part in the 5 km,
10 km or 21 km routes, with walking and aerobics options also available. The main Run will be held at Kololo Independence Grounds, alongside runs in major towns across Uganda and other participating locations.
SWICO calls on individuals, families, companies and community groups to buy a kit and join the Run on 30 August. Every purchase supports efforts to bring advanced cancer treatment closer to Ugandans.
