Musenene made the remarks during a meeting with leaders of the Barawe District Youth Council at the Battle Group 45 headquarters in Embresso, Barawe District, where discussions focused on the role of young people in sustaining peace and supporting development efforts.
He urged the youth to take advantage of the improved security situation to engage in activities that contribute to the growth and stability of their communities.
The commander said patriotism and nationalism are critical values for building a peaceful and prosperous society, urging young people to take responsibility in safeguarding their country’s future.
"Patriotism and nationalism are the foundation of lasting socio-economic transformation. As young people, you have a responsibility to safeguard your country and contribute positively to its development," Musenene said.
He commended the youth for cooperating with AUSSOM forces and encouraged them to remain united in resisting the influence of Al-Shabaab by supporting efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
Musenene said continued collaboration between communities and security forces is essential in consolidating security gains in Barawe and other areas affected by conflict.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairperson of the Barawe District Youth Council, General Secretary Hassan Mohammed appreciated the UPDF contingent for its professionalism and contribution towards restoring peace in the district.
"We recognize the professional manner in which you conduct your operations. You have built a good reputation and will remain part of Somalia's history," Mohammed said.
He reaffirmed the Youth Council’s commitment to maintaining cooperation with AUSSOM, particularly the Ugandan contingent, saying the partnership between residents and troops has played an important role in sustaining peace and security in Barawe.
The meeting was attended by Battle Group 45 Military Intelligence Officer Major David Akandwanaho, Political Commissar Major Fred Emuron, Engineer Major Charles Baraza, Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Officer Lieutenant Christopher Birungi and members of the Barawe District Youth Council.
UPDF Battle Group 45 is part of the AUSSOM mission, which supports efforts by Somali authorities to strengthen security, stabilise communities and counter threats posed by armed groups including Al-Shabaab.
