The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has applauded the Busoga Education Initiative for spearheading the improvement of education in the region, which led to better performance as seen in the recently released Primary Leaving Examinations results.

Kadaga said the initiative led by Ambassador Agnes Kalibbala identified the 20 worst performing schools in Busoga and energized them with strategies to improve their performance.

“We are grateful to Ambassador Kalibbala and the Busoga Education Initiative that have seen to it that children in Busoga improve greatly. I used to check for Busoga schools from the bottom but this year, we have moved up and hope to get better by the year,” Kadaga said.

Kadaga made the remarks on Thursday, 24 January 2019 while unveiling the detailed programme for the Busoga Consortium stakeholders’ conference that will be held in April with the aim of improving the economic standing of the Busoga region.

The Speaker said that Busoga is gifted with natural resources which would be crucial in uplifting the economic status of the region.

“With our good climate, fertile soils and mineral resources, we shall be able to harness the potentials to improve our standards of living. The Busoga Consortium is a new vehicle that will bring business communities together with the local government so that we have a common socio- economic agenda,” she said.

The Minister for the Presidency, Hon Esther Mbayo, said the conference will help to guide the development agenda for Busoga.

“Our focus will be on tourism and cultural promotion, industrialization, promotion of modern agricultural processes and improvement of educational standards in the region,” she said.
