The inaugural Uganda Cultural and Tourism Festival officially opened on Friday in Munich, marking a major celebration of Uganda's rich cultural heritage and a strategic effort to strengthen tourism, investment and diaspora ties with Europe.
The three-day festival was officially launched with a special message from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, delivered by Mariam Ataho, the Presidential Assistant on Music and Cultural Affairs.
In his message, President Museveni underscored the importance of preserving Uganda's cultural heritage, describing it as a key pillar of national identity, unity and socio-economic transformation.
"Preserving and promoting Uganda's cultural heritage is not just about tradition—it is a cornerstone of our national identity, unity and socio-economic transformation," the President said.
The event has attracted Ugandans living in the diaspora, tourism operators, prospective investors and international friends of Uganda, providing a platform to promote cultural exchange, tourism partnerships and business networking.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mohammed Bagonza, Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening engagement with Ugandans living abroad.
"We are committed to deepening diaspora engagement," Bagonza said. "We urge all Ugandans living abroad to remain united and support initiatives that continue to showcase Uganda as the true Pearl of Africa."
Over the next three days, participants will experience a diverse programme featuring traditional music and dance performances, cultural exhibitions, tourism showcases, business networking sessions and investment forums designed to connect Uganda with European partners.
Organisers say the festival aims to strengthen links between Uganda and its diaspora while positioning the country as a premier tourism and investment destination in Europe.
The event also showcases Uganda's diverse cultural heritage—from its vibrant music, dance and traditions to its world-renowned wildlife and natural attractions—with the goal of translating these cultural assets into tangible economic opportunities through increased tourism, trade and investment.
