India gives Uganda $1.6m medicine donation

The  Government of the Republic of Uganda on Thursday officially received a  donation  of  57 Varieties  of medicine worth 1.6million USD from the Government of the Republic of India. The ceremony took place at at the National Medical Stores (NMS) Entebbe.

The Minister of Health,  Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth ACHIENG received  the medicines  on behalf of the Republic of Uganda from H.E. Shri Ravi SHANKAR, the Indian High Commissioner on behalf of the Republic of India.

This was made possible  through the efforts and engagements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Government of the Republic of India. Speaking on behalf of the Ministry,  Amb. Alfred Nnam highlighted that this  donation is to be followed by the Commissioning of the Cancer Radio Therapy Machine which also was donated by Government of India following the official visit of Prime Minister  H.E Shri Narendra Modi which took place in July 2018.

Conveying a message of gratitude the Minister commended the Government of India for supporting Government of Uganda noting that this donation of the medicines is a manifestation of the excellent cordial relations that exist between both countries emphasizing that this will significantly benefit the people of Uganda in improving their health conditions.

The Indian High Commissioner  reiterated the commitment of the Government of India as a development partner supporting Uganda's emphasis and initiatives  on local manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.
