The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has directed the interdiction of the Lira City Statistician, Denis Okello Ayini, pending the outcome of an ongoing court case against him.

According to a statement dated 22 June 2026, Ayini was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate’s Court under Criminal Case No. 407/2026. He is charged with uttering forged documents contrary to sections 328 and 324 of the Penal Code Act.

The IG states that the case has been instituted against the public officer as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

Citing Article 230(2) of the Constitution of the Republic and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, Cap 32, the Inspector General is empowered to make orders and issue directions as may be necessary and appropriate in the course of duty or as a consequence of findings.

The statement notes that, in this instance, public interest requires that the officer be stopped from exercising the powers and functions of his office while the court case is still ongoing.

“In this case, public interest demands that while the case against the above public official is still going on in court, he should be stopped from exercising the powers and functions of his office,” the statement read.

The interdiction follows the IG’s directive to the Lira City Clerk to take the necessary administrative action pending the conclusion of the case.
