The tournament, organised by the Busoga College Mwiri Old Boys Association (MOBA), brought together former students of one of Uganda's most celebrated secondary schools for a day of football, camaraderie and networking.
In the Plate Cup final, Solida defeated Kombora Goolo 3-2 in a closely contested encounter to lift the trophy.
The match remained evenly balanced throughout regulation time before Solida held their nerve to emerge victorious. The contest showcased the competitive spirit that has come to define the annual tournament.
Ashiraf Kusasira, captain of the Solida team from the 1995 cohort, attributed the victory to discipline and adherence to the coach's tactics.
“The match was very tight, but we had to stick to the coach’s tactics because our focus was to win our first trophy. The approach we adopted helped us navigate all the stages of the competition and eventually reach the final,” Kusasira said.
He added that the team's determination and tactical execution played a key role in securing the title.
In the Main Pool final, defending champions Suici delivered another dominant performance, defeating Makaya 2-0 to retain the championship.
The victory marked Suici's third consecutive Main Pool title, further cementing their status as the most successful team in the competition's recent history.
MOBA President Daniel Mushabe Kakaire said the association was pleased to see the tournament continue to grow despite challenges experienced over the years.
“The cup had been losing momentum at some point, but we are glad we pushed on. This is about more than football; it is about keeping the Mwiri brotherhood alive,” Mushabe said.
He noted that the competition remains an important platform for strengthening bonds among former students while promoting mentorship and networking across generations.
Speaking at the event, Guinness representative Irene Nyakwebera said football remains one of the most effective tools for bringing communities together and fostering meaningful partnerships.
She said supporting such initiatives reflects the broader social value of sport beyond competition.
The conclusion of the tournament coincided with MOBA's wider corporate social responsibility activities in Jinja, including the donation of a blood bank refrigerator to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital earlier in the day.
The gesture underscored the association's commitment to supporting community development alongside promoting fellowship among former students.
