The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has inspected Lweza Training and Conference Centre as preparations continue for the upcoming Global South Fellowship of Anglicans (GSFA) General Assembly scheduled for April 13 to 17, 2027.

The Archbishop visited the facility on Thursday to assess progress on ongoing expansion works and overall readiness to host the international religious gathering, which is expected to attract delegates from across the Global South Anglican community.

During the inspection, Archbishop Kaziimba toured newly constructed accommodation facilities whose construction was commissioned by Vice President Jessica Alupo, who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during a thanksgiving service held on March 26, 2026, at the same centre.

“I am impressed by the speed and professionalism demonstrated in the construction of this project. We are committed to transforming Lweza Training and Conference Centre into a world-class provider of hospitality services while strengthening its original mandate as a premier training and conference facility,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

He noted that the Church of Uganda has continued to host major international engagements at the facility, including Global South Bishops’ training conferences, and confirmed that another such conference is scheduled for next month.

“Church of Uganda has been hosting Global South Bishops’ training conferences, with the next one scheduled for next month at this same facility. We have also successfully hosted several other international conferences, achieving excellent results. Hosting the Global South General Assembly is a strong vote of confidence in our organizational capacity,” he added.

The Archbishop was accompanied by the Provincial Secretary, Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Director of Household and Community Transformation, Rev. Andrew Agaba, and the General Manager of Lweza Training and Conference Centre, Rev. Chrysostom Akwech.

Rev. Andrew Agaba said the ongoing construction works had reached the roofing stage and are expected to be completed by the end of next month, further boosting the centre’s capacity ahead of the 2027 event.

The Global South Fellowship of Anglicans General Assembly is one of the most significant gatherings in the Anglican Communion, bringing together church leaders to discuss doctrine, mission and global partnerships.
