The Bishop of Mityana Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. James Bukomeko Ssalongo, has called on the government to release individuals who remain in detention over politically related cases, while urging all state institutions to uphold justice, fairness, and accountability in the execution of their duties.

Bishop Bukomeko made the remarks during a confirmation service held at All Saints Church, Busimbi, where he confirmed 139 Christians into the Anglican faith. The event also featured the official opening and dedication of a newly acquired church building, All Saints House.

Addressing the congregation, the bishop stressed the importance of justice in maintaining peace and strengthening public confidence in national institutions.

“Every institution entrusted with serving Ugandans must be guided by justice and fairness. Those responsible for administering justice should always act impartially and in accordance with the law,” Bishop Bukomeko said.

He particularly appealed to judicial officers and other government agencies to ensure that all citizens receive equal treatment before the law, regardless of political affiliation or social status.

The bishop also urged Members of Parliament and other elected leaders to remain faithful to the mandate given to them by voters.

“Leaders must remember the promises they made to the people. They should serve with integrity, stand for the truth, and work tirelessly to address the needs of the communities that elected them,” he noted.

Bishop Bukomeko further encouraged Christians to uphold moral values, unity, and responsible citizenship, saying national progress depends on honesty and accountability among both leaders and citizens.

The day’s celebrations began with the commissioning of All Saints House, a new church facility expected to enhance administrative and pastoral work within the parish.

The Archdeacon of Busimbi Archdeaconry, Rev. Frederick Kironde, expressed appreciation to the congregation and development partners who contributed to acquiring the building.

“This facility will support the church’s mission and create a better working environment for ministry and community outreach activities,” Rev. Kironde said.

The confirmation service attracted hundreds of Christians, clergy, and local leaders who joined the faithful in celebrating the spiritual milestone of the 139 confirmands and the continued growth of the church in Busimbi.

Church leaders used the occasion to call for unity, justice, and responsible leadership, emphasizing that national development depends on both accountable governance and active citizen participation.
