Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has expressed confidence in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade and the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), saying their proven track record in delivering major infrastructure projects has earned them the government's trust to undertake key projects ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking at the launch of the Masindi Municipal Council AFCON training facility project and the construction of Masindi Hospital, Nabbanja said the two entities have consistently demonstrated professionalism and the capacity to execute strategic national projects.

The AFCON training facility project will be undertaken by the UPDF Engineering Brigade under the supervision of Lt. Col. Peter Seku Kidemuka, while the construction of Masindi Hospital will be undertaken by NEC Construction Works and Engineering Ltd.

Nabbanja noted that both the UPDF Engineering Brigade and NEC had successfully delivered major infrastructure projects in different parts of the country, including the construction of Hoima City Stadium and the renovation of Mandela National Stadium.

“We have full faith in NEC and the UPDF Engineering Brigade because they have consistently demonstrated professionalism and the ability to deliver quality work,” she said.

According to her, the experience and performance exhibited by the two institutions on previous assignments provided assurance that the projects in Masindi would be completed to the required standards.

She also commended the Chief of Defence Forces and Special Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations (CDF and SPA/SO), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the Managing Director of NEC for their continued support and commitment to national development initiatives.

Nabbanja said the government's confidence in the two entities was founded on their ability to execute complex projects and deliver results within expected timelines.

The General Manager of NEC Construction Works and Engineering Limited, Eng. Brian Buhanda, thanked the government for entrusting the corporation with the project.

Eng. Buhanda assured the Prime Minister and the people of Masindi that NEC would work closely with the UPDF Engineering Brigade to ensure timely completion of the works ahead of the 2027 AFCON tournament.

“We shall work diligently to ensure that the facility meets the required standards and is completed on schedule,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by the State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang; the Deputy Division Commander of the Artillery Division, Col. Rogers Dhikusooka Kitwala, who represented the Division Commander; engineers from NEC and the UPDF Engineering Brigade; and Maj. Onesmus Kakuru, among other officials.
