KAMPALA — Charles Peter Mayiga has advised Ugandan entertainers to remain humble despite fame, wealth and public admiration, warning that pride often undermines long-term success.
Mayiga made the remarks while meeting comedy duo Maulana and Reign during a courtesy visit at Bulange, where they discussed the growth of the entertainment industry.
“When you understand someone’s behavior, give them money, power, and fame; if they remain humble after getting all that, then that person is truly good,” Mayiga said.
He cautioned that many talented individuals struggle with managing fame and arrogance, adding that pride can lead to a loss of direction and eventual downfall.
“The problem with many talented people is controlling fame and arrogance. They forget that pride comes before a fall,” he said.
Mayiga also praised entertainers for their contribution to society, noting that comedy and drama play an important role in relieving stress and improving people’s mental well-being.
He said entertainment helps people cope with life’s pressures, which can otherwise contribute to conditions such as anxiety, depression and other stress-related illnesses.
“Life comes with exhaustion, pressure, confusion, stress, and worry. These can take away a person’s peace and even lead to death. But entertainers help people forget their pain and regain happiness,” he said.
He encouraged both performers and audiences to value rest and relaxation, comparing it to maintaining a vehicle through regular servicing.
“A person who relaxes and refreshes themselves is like a car that has been serviced,” he added.
The comedians thanked the Katikkiro for hosting them, saying engagements with senior leaders provide guidance, encouragement and professional growth.
Robert Serwanga Ssalongo, the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Youth, Sports and Talent, also urged entertainers to maintain discipline, creativity and professionalism in their work.
He said comedy and drama have gained respect as viable careers because of pioneers who treated the arts as a serious profession, and encouraged performers to remain focused and innovative.
The visit was also attended by several entertainers, including Nina Rose and other performers from the comedy and entertainment industry.
