Mityana: Fr. Lusiba Calls for Faith Rooted in Action as Uganda Marks Martyrs Day

By | June 3, 2026

Speaking during Martyrs Day commemorations, Fr. Lusiba said the legacy of the Uganda Martyrs remains highly relevant today because it demonstrates the importance of standing for what is right, even in the face of challenges and persecution.

He noted that the martyrs sacrificed their lives because they refused to compromise their faith and principles, a lesson he said modern-day Christians should embrace in their homes, workplaces and communities.

“The Uganda Martyrs stood firmly for the truth and remained faithful to their beliefs despite immense pressure. Christians today should follow their example by being honest, trustworthy and committed to their faith,” Fr. Lusiba said.

The priest emphasized that remembering the martyrs should inspire believers to become agents of positive change in society. He encouraged Christians to actively contribute to national development by promoting peace, justice, unity and responsible citizenship.

“Commemorating the martyrs should remind us of our responsibility to build a better country. Every Christian has a role to play in making Uganda a peaceful, united and morally upright nation,” he added.

Fr. Lusiba further urged the faithful to demonstrate their Christian values through their actions, noting that true faith is reflected not only in worship but also in the way people treat others and serve their communities.

“Faith should be visible in our daily conduct. When we choose honesty over corruption, justice over injustice and love over hatred, we keep alive the spirit for which the martyrs gave their lives,” he explained.

As thousands of pilgrims continue to gather at various Martyrs Day celebrations across the country, church leaders have reiterated the importance of drawing inspiration from the courage, sacrifice and commitment of the martyrs to strengthen both individual faith and national values.

Religious leaders believe that embracing the principles exemplified by the Uganda Martyrs can help address many of the social challenges facing the country today while fostering a society founded on truth, accountability and mutual respect.
