The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has concluded his farewell pastoral visit to the Bugisu sub-region with a call for unity, compassion and continued commitment to the Church’s mission.
Archbishop Kaziimba began his engagements in North Mbale Diocese on Friday, May 29, 2026, where he led a farewell service at St Matthew’s Cathedral Buhugu in Sironko District before proceeding to Mbale Diocese, where he presided over another service at St. Andrew’s Cathedral Mbale on Sunday.
In North Mbale Diocese, he was received by Bishop Samuel Gidudu, while in Mbale Diocese he was welcomed by Bishop John Wilson Nandaah alongside clergy and lay leaders who joined the farewell services held across the region.
Preaching from 1 Peter 3:8, Archbishop Kaziimba urged Christians to uphold unity in the church and wider community, stressing the importance of compassion, humility and mutual love among believers.
“Believers are called to live in unity, love one another as brothers and sisters, and remain humble and tender-hearted,” he said.
The Archbishop also encouraged congregations to support the Church of Uganda’s environmental campaign aimed at planting 15 million trees, noting its role in conservation, climate resilience and income generation for communities.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to Ministry of Health Standard Operating Procedures to prevent the spread of Ebola, emphasising the importance of community responsibility in disease prevention.
During his visit, Archbishop Kaziimba made a courtesy prayer visit to retired Bishop Patrick Gidudu, who is currently receiving medical care in Nairobi following brain surgery and treatment after a mild stroke.
Church leaders in the region commended the Archbishop for what they described as visionary leadership, highlighting initiatives such as the completion of Church House, advocacy for family values, evangelism, and strengthening institutional unity within the Church of Uganda.
The farewell services were attended by several political and community leaders from the Bugisu region, including Julius Nakiyi, Godfrey Wanyoto, Geoffrey Wokuri, Miriam Mukhaye and Joyce Kidulu, among others.
