Hundreds of Muslims in Adjumani District gathered at Answar Mosque in Pachara Sub-county on Wednesday morning to observe Eid al-Adha prayers, in celebrations marked by unity, reflection, and renewed calls for development across the Ma’di Sub-region.
The prayers drew a cross-section of leaders, including Adjumani District Local Council V Chairperson John Anyanzo Ambayo, who joined worshippers in marking the Festival of Sacrifice.
He urged both leaders and residents to prioritise service delivery over political differences, saying development should take centre stage after elections.
“It is time for development. Elections are over, and leaders come and go. What matters now is unity and service delivery,” Ambayo said, calling for continued cooperation among residents.
Ambayo also welcomed recent presidential appointments, noting the elevation of Tom Aleru Aza, the Moyo West County Member of Parliament, and Siraji Musa Ali, the Adjumani West County Member of Parliament and son of Gen (Rtd) Moses Ali, to state ministerial positions. He described the appointments as a boost for representation in the Ma’di Sub-region.
The Supreme Khadi of Adjumani, Sheikh Rashid Khelili Yunis, used the occasion to call for stronger unity among Muslims, urging believers to work together in the fight against poverty and to improve household welfare.
“Muslims must embrace togetherness and unity as a way of overcoming poverty and building stronger families and communities,” Sheikh Yunis said during the prayers.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Simon Peter Obumai called on worshippers to support government programs, observe public health guidance, and maintain tolerance across religious divides. He also reaffirmed government commitment to protecting freedom of worship.
“We encourage citizens to continue supporting government initiatives, observe health guidelines, and remain tolerant in matters of faith,” he said.
The celebration also highlighted a political milestone for the Ma’di Sub-region, which now has two serving state ministers following recent appointments of Tom Aleru Aza, State Minister for Trade and Cooperatives, and Siraji Musa Ali, State Minister for Works and Transport.
The Eid gathering ended peacefully with prayers for peace, prosperity, and continued development in Adjumani District and the wider Ma’di Sub-region.
