Rotarians have been called upon to prioritize unity within their ranks as a strategic way of mobilizing more resources and enhancing their impact in the communities they serve.
The appeal was made by Past District Governor Ken Mugisha during the installation ceremony of Alice Drazulu as the 4th President of the Rotary Club of Nakero. The event was held at Victors' Valley Hotel in Nakwero, where Mugisha officially handed over the instruments of leadership to the incoming president.
In his remarks, Mugisha emphasized that cohesion among Rotary members is critical in amplifying their collective capacity. He noted that a united front enables Rotarians to pool resources more effectively, thereby making a more visible and meaningful difference in society.
“Unity among Rotarians translates into stronger resource mobilization and greater impact. The communities we serve often do not distinguish between different Rotary Clubs, so working together enhances both visibility and effectiveness,” he said.
Alice Drazulu, in her acceptance speech, acknowledged the challenges Rotary faces in public perception. She pointed out that many people still misunderstand the organization, often viewing it as an exclusive club for the wealthy and elderly.
“Rotary is not about wealth or age—it is about having the heart to give and serve humanity,” she stressed.
Drazulu outlined her priorities for her tenure, highlighting a commitment to community-focused initiatives. She pledged to champion projects aimed at improving education, sanitation, and access to clean water—key areas she believes will significantly uplift livelihoods.
Outgoing president Patience Kyomugasho expressed confidence in the new leadership and pledged continued support. She, together with her board, committed to working closely with Drazulu to ensure continuity and sustained service to the community.
The ceremony also recognized outstanding members for their dedication and service, with several individuals receiving gifts and certificates in appreciation of their contributions.
The event marked not only a leadership transition but also a renewed commitment by Rotarians to strengthen collaboration and deepen their impact in the communities they serve.
