Mwenge South MP Mary Kuteesa Kamuli on Monday announced her bid for Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament, positioning her legal and leadership experience at the center of her campaign.

Addressing journalists in Kampala, Kamuli said her record as Head of Legal at both the Uganda Revenue Authority and the Uganda National Roads Authority had given her solid grounding in leadership, management, governance, and policy formulation.

“My record at URA and UNRA speaks for itself,” Kamuli said. “It was a training platform that prepared me to serve Parliament with integrity and focus.”

Flanked by fellow legislators, she said she had been mentored by leaders who do not tolerate corruption and abuse of office. She argued that Parliament needs a Deputy Speaker committed to restoring sanity and public trust in the institution.

“Parliament must provide accountability to the public,” she added. “I am ready to work with government to fight graft and ensure the House serves its core purpose.”

Other MPs at the press briefing commended Kamuli as a tested leader, a cadre of the NRM, and a champion of development in her constituency.

The Deputy Speakership race is shaping up to be competitive, with other aspirants including Mbale City Woman MP Lydia Wanyoto, outgoing Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi, and Buyaga West MP Denis Namara, formerly of EALA.
