Innocent Rubarondesa, the Municipal Councillor for Kinyasano Ward and a member of the opposition People’s Front for Freedom, has declared his intention to contest for Speaker of Rukungiri Municipal Council for the 2026–2031 term.
Speaking on May 14, Rubarondesa said the party had endorsed him for the position and expressed confidence in securing the seat.
He said that, if elected, he would provide neutral leadership by ensuring fairness in council proceedings and allowing all councillors to freely participate in decision-making.
“I pledge to run meetings without bias and make sure all councilors get a chance to contribute to decisions,” Rubarondesa said.
Rubarondesa also pledged to provide impartial leadership and closely monitor government programmes and projects to ensure effective service delivery and accountability for public funds.
“I call on the newly elected Rukungiri Municipality councilors to back and vote for me in the speakership race,” he added.
The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Mayor Boaz Matita and councillors is scheduled for May 22, 2026. The event will also mark the exit of outgoing Mayor Charles Makuru, who has served for 30 years, alongside other outgoing councilors.
