Businessman-turned-politician Godfrey Aine Kaguta Sodo, 46, has been sworn in as the new Mawogola North Member of Parliament.
Sodo, as he is commonly referred to, was sworn in on Wednesday as Parliament kicked off a three-day swearing-in exercise for MPs of the 12th Parliament.
At the swearing-in grounds, he was escorted by one of his brothers, Michael Nuwagira, famously known as Toyota, his wife, and other relatives.
Speaking shortly after taking the oath, Sodo described the achievement as a major milestone in his life.
“This is a big milestone because I have never been a Member of Parliament,” he told journalists.
The 46-year-old businessman, who is also a brother to President Museveni, however, said this does not give him any special status.
“Being a brother to the President doesn’t make me special. I am a normal human being like others. I will therefore remain a normal person working to serve my people and the country at large,” he said.
“To the people of Mawogola, I thank you for voting for me, and I am ready to work to develop our area as your Member of Parliament.”
Sodo defeated lawyer Jet Tumwebaze in a hotly contested election in Mawogola North.
This was his second attempt at Parliament, having initially contested in 2021 but later withdrew from the race in favor of Shartsi Kutesa.
Sodo’s 2026 election victory was recently challenged in court by Tumwebaze.
The swearing-in of MPs for the 12th Parliament, which started today, will end on Friday, May 15.
