A video circulating on TikTok purporting to show heavy military deployment ahead of the presidential swearing-in ceremony is MISLEADING.
The clip, which shows armored military vehicles moving through the city, is being falsely shared as footage of recent security deployments linked to the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.
However, the footage is outdated and unrelated to the current security operations. A reverse image search established that the video was originally recorded on January 12, 2021, during heightened security deployments ahead of Uganda’s presidential elections that year.
While security agencies have confirmed increased deployment ahead of the May 12, 2026 swearing-in ceremony, the viral clip does not depict those ongoing operations.
Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that security will be heightened in Kampala and surrounding suburbs ahead of the ceremony. He urged the public not to panic over the increased presence of security personnel and equipment.
