Traffic Police have apprehended 793 offenders for violating road traffic rules and regulations in operations conducted over the past week, authorities have said.
Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said the enforcement targeted motorists and riders flouting key safety requirements on major roads and within urban centres.
According to the police, the highest number of offenders, 375, were cited for driving defective motor vehicles (DMC), followed by 148 arrested for driving or riding without valid licences. Ninety-five motorcyclists were found riding without helmets, while 76 cases involved violation of traffic direction.
Other offences recorded included illegal vehicle modifications (33), dangerous loading (26), pillion riding violations (22), abandoned vehicles (7), drink driving (5), and failure to comply with route charts (5). One driver was arrested for operating without a badge.
Kananura said the operations form part of sustained efforts to enforce discipline among road users and reduce crashes.
“This effort continues as part of ongoing measures to promote safer roads and ensure compliance with traffic regulations,” he said.
Police warned that enforcement will remain active, urging all road users to adhere to traffic laws to avoid penalties and enhance safety.
