The body of former Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament Hellen Nakimuli has today been transported to Kalangala District for public viewing, officially marking the start of her funeral programme ahead of burial later this week.
Nakimuli’s remains were released from A-Plus Funeral Management after a postmortem was conducted at Mulago National Referral Hospital, although the examination reportedly did not immediately establish the exact cause of her death.
She died on Sunday following what has been described as an unsuccessful fibroid surgery at Alexandria Medical Centre, a private facility specialising in women’s health services.
The unclear medical findings have continued to fuel public concern over the circumstances surrounding her passing.
According to the official burial programme, funeral rites began on Monday, April 20, 2026, with the cortege departing Kampala for Kalangala via Nakiwogo in Entebbe, with the ferry scheduled to leave at 2:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 21, Kalangala District will hold local government honours, including a special district council session and public viewing to allow residents and leaders to pay their final respects.
Parliament is expected to lead national tributes on Wednesday, April 22, when the late legislator’s body will lie in state.
This will be followed by a tribute at the National Unity Platform headquarters and a vigil at her family home in Namungoona.
Final funeral rites will take place on Thursday, April 23, with a requiem service at Namungoona Orthodox Church before burial in Luwero District.
The failure by initial medical examinations to immediately determine the cause of death has left lingering questions, with further tests expected to provide clarity as the country prepares to bid farewell to the former legislator.
