Popular comedian, Anne Kansiime has shared a deeply personal account of her past relationships, revealing how she once “married herself” in a bid to make a union work, even as she struggled privately with starting a family.
Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Kansiime revealed an emotional journey marked by love, cultural expectations, self-doubt and, ultimately, motherhood.
The celebrated 38-year-old entertainer recounted how, in her early 30s, she found herself questioning the foundation of a relationship she had long believed was a marriage.
Despite formally introducing her partner to her family, a usually cultural step in many Ugandan unions, the process stalled when dowry expectations were not fulfilled.
Instead of walking away, Kansiime says she took matters into her own hands.
“I have never become a wife,” she said.
“I accused myself so much, paid my own dowry, and convinced the whole world, and the man himself, that we were married.”
According to her, the moment passed without much reflection at the time. Life continued, and the relationship carried on as though all was well, until years later, when she began to reassess her situation.
That period of introspection coincided with another deeply personal struggle: her desire to have a child.
Kansiime described the frustration of trying to conceive while watching others around her seemingly do so with ease.
She recalled how pregnancy appeared everywhere she turned, from friends and acquaintances to young girls in her own foundation.
“At some point you start asking questions,” she said, reflecting on the emotional toll.
She added, “You see people you think are not even ready becoming mothers, and you wonder why not you,"
The experience, she noted, forced her into deeper reflection about faith, timing and self-worth.
Despite a flourishing career that had elevated her to continental fame, she found herself grappling with a sense of lack in her personal life.
Kansiime has previously spoken about her journey to motherhood, which eventually culminated in the birth of her first child in 2021 with singer Skylanta. The two are now understood to have since separated.
Looking back, she frames her story as one of growth, an evolving understanding of love, identity and the pressures women often place on themselves in the pursuit of societal ideals.
