Pedestrian Killed in Crash Involving Minister Nabakooba

A pedestrian has been killed in a road crash involving Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba along the Kampala–Masaka Highway.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said the accident occurred on Wednesday at about 8:30am at Kibukula Swamp.

The crash involved a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, registration number UBR 811D, in which the minister was travelling, and a pedestrian identified as Batera Flavia, a resident of Kyengera.

“The pedestrian died on the spot,” Kananura said.

He added that Nabakooba and the driver sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Nkozi Hospital for treatment before being discharged.

According to police, the body of the deceased was taken to Gombe Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The vehicle involved in the crash was towed to a police station pending inspection as investigations into the incident commenced.

Police said inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
