The newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Uganda, Ahmed Muhammad Abdulrahman Abdullah Al Zwaid, has paid a courtesy visit to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala, signaling a commitment to strengthening diplomatic and community ties.
The ambassador was received by Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, who represented the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje.
Speaking during the meeting, Sheikh Bukenya welcomed the ambassador and emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering development within communities.
“We appreciate this visit as a sign of goodwill and partnership. Engagements like these are important in promoting unity and development among our people,” Bukenya said.
During the discussions, UMSC leaders briefed the ambassador on the Council’s historical background, structure, and ongoing activities, highlighting its role in advancing social and religious development in Uganda.
Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi noted that the Council remains committed to partnerships that support societal transformation.
“UMSC is open to working with friends and partners who share our vision of improving the livelihoods of our communities,” he said.
The meeting was described as cordial and forward-looking, with both parties holding what officials termed “brotherly conversations” focused on development and cooperation.
Ambassador Al Zwaid expressed appreciation for the warm reception and underscored the importance of continued engagement between Qatar and Uganda’s Muslim leadership.
“We look forward to strengthening our relationship through continued dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of our communities,” the ambassador said.
In a gesture of support, the ambassador donated food items including rice, maize flour, sugar, and cooking oil to assist vulnerable members of the community.
Both sides agreed to maintain close contact and explore further areas of collaboration in the near future.
