Leaders have called on the government to place greater focus on youth-related issues, particularly by ensuring young people benefit from national development projects, as a way of addressing rising crime among the youth.
Speaking at a youth engagement event held at Nabweru Playground, the head of the Inter-Collegiate Prayer Fellowship (ICPF) Uganda, Frank Ssebata, emphasized the need to empower young people through inclusive programs and opportunities.
“We are urging the government to prioritize youth in its projects so they can benefit and reduce the increasing involvement in crime,” Ssebata said.
The event, which attracted a large number of young people, included sports activities aimed at identifying and nurturing talent while restoring hope among participants.
Ssebata also highlighted ICPF’s efforts to spread the gospel among youth as a way of uplifting them and steering them away from criminal behavior.
“We have decided to take the gospel to young people to help nurture their talents and protect them from engaging in crime,” he said.
Meanwhile, ICPF Secretary General Dr. Dingo Thompson called on young people to stay united and resist negative peer influence.
“You must stay united and avoid bad groups that can easily mislead you into wrong actions,” Dr. Thompson advised.
Leaders at the event underscored that empowering young people through skills development, mentorship, and moral guidance is critical for building a responsible and productive generation.
