URA, Manufacturers Association Roll Out Regional Tax Clinics to Boost Compliance

By | March 24, 2026

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), in partnership with the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA), has launched a series of regional tax clinics aimed at strengthening tax compliance and business literacy among manufacturers and entrepreneurs.

The initiative kicked off in Eastern Uganda, with the first engagements taking place in Jinja and Mbale.

The regional tax clinics are designed to equip manufacturers, entrepreneurs and other business stakeholders with practical knowledge to better understand and navigate tax obligations.

Participants are expected to engage directly with URA tax experts in interactive sessions focused on simplifying tax processes and providing actionable insights to improve compliance.

Key areas of discussion include import duty and export levy structures, valuation methods and accurate calculation of landed costs.

The sessions will also explore duty remission schemes and procedures for obtaining certificates of origin to access preferential trade arrangements under regional frameworks such as the East African Community (EAC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

In a statement, URA said the regional tax clinics reflect the authority’s commitment to building a compliant, competitive and well-informed private sector.

“These engagements provide an opportunity for business leaders to strengthen their tax literacy and operational efficiency by directly interacting with our experts,” the statement noted.

The UMA–URA initiative forms part of broader stakeholder engagement efforts by the tax body aimed at improving voluntary compliance, fostering transparent relationships with taxpayers and enhancing revenue mobilisation.

Other activities under the programme include nationwide taxpayer education campaigns, high-level dialogues with business leaders, sector-specific sensitisation meetings and collaboration with government agencies to support policy implementation.
