Staff of the Judiciary at the Arua High Court and the Chief Magistrate’s Court Arua on Monday commemorated International Women’s Day, recognising the contributions of women in the administration of justice and national development.

The event, organised by the Chief Magistrate of Arua, Conrad Obol Oroya, was presided over by Lady Justice Melody Ginamia and brought together judicial officers and support staff from both the High Court and the Chief Magistrate’s Court. Among those in attendance were Deputy Registrar Toloko Simon and Magistrate Grade One Hellen Amweno.

In his remarks, Oroya highlighted the pivotal role women play in nation-building and in strengthening the justice system.

“Women continue to make significant contributions in the administration of justice in Arua through their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service,” he said.

Staff welcomed the initiative, noting that it was the first time International Women’s Day had been formally celebrated within the workplace. Many participants commended the resilience and hard work of women in service, while recognising the supportive role of male colleagues in fostering an inclusive working environment.

Lady Justice Ginamia encouraged female staff to remain humble despite the progress made in advancing women’s rights and opportunities. She urged them to support one another and to pursue the highest professional opportunities available.

The celebration concluded with the ceremonial cutting of a cake, symbolising unity and appreciation for the role women continue to play in advancing justice and serving society.
