BoU official sacked for querying transfer of Crane Bank documents

The Statutory Manager of Bank of Uganda, Katimbo Mugwanya, was sacked after he raised objection to the transfer of vital documents, that he was mandated to keep, from Crane Bank to DFCU.

Mugwanya told the committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises that he was only notified on WhatApp while at his farm that the transfer of documents was underway.

When he came to office the next day, he was instead given a termination letter.

Mugwanya pinned Benedict Ssekabira and Justine Bagyenda for his predicament during the proceedings at parliament yesterday.

The legislators also learnt that the Crane Bank's bad loan book was sold to DFCU bank with no interest at a cost of Shs 200 billion that was supposed to be paid in a period of 36 month.

MPs were also shocked to learn that Crane Bank was sold to DFCU without its assets being evaluated.

Meanwhile during Friday's sitting, Bagyenda asked the committee to return her passport as she needed to travel for Christmas abroad.

The committee continues with the probe on Monday still with the same officials of Bank of Uganda.
