Justice Zeija made the remarks during his first meeting with Justices of the Supreme Court, held during the Court’s third weekly meeting of the year at the Supreme Court Boardroom.
In his remarks, Justice Zeija expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Court, describing it as “an exceptional team of jurists” whose “collective wisdom and experience” he said would be critical to his tenure, the institution and the country.
He noted that the work ahead of the apex court “is substantial” and emphasised the need for “collegiality, commitment, a shared vision, participatory approaches, and the strategic application of technology to advance a fast-paced and modern Judiciary.”
The Chief Justice also pledged to “consult widely and work closely with all his colleagues at the Court” to ensure effective leadership and institutional continuity.
In response, the Justices of the Supreme Court welcomed Justice Zeija and congratulated him upon his appointment, saying his leadership was “timely and well-suited to further deepen the Judiciary’s reform agenda.”
They collectively pledged “teamwork, professionalism, collegiality, and continuous improvement in the operations of the Court.”
Justice Zeija was recently appointed Chief Justice, becoming the head of the Judiciary and chairperson of Uganda’s apex court.
