A total of 152 Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force (UPDF) have commenced a four-month professional training course at the Lugore Training School, under the UPDF 4 Infantry Division in Gulu District.

The course was officially opened by the 4 Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, who commended UPDF leadership for decentralising training programmes to formations and lower-level units. He noted that the initiative has significantly enhanced professionalism, competence, and operational readiness across the Force.

“A professional soldier must train hard in order to fight effectively,” he said.

Busizoori emphasised that contemporary military operations demand a high level of mastery in both tactical and leadership skills, underscoring the importance of continuous training in today’s dynamic security environment.

The Division Commander further highlighted that military training extends beyond the acquisition of technical skills, playing a vital role in shaping discipline, character, and ethical conduct among soldiers.

“Training moulds the character of a soldier. It instils discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility—qualities that are essential for effective leadership,” he said.

Busizoori urged the trainees to remain focused, resilient, and committed throughout the course, stressing the importance of endurance and determination in achieving success.

“Endurance is key. Those who successfully complete this training will be better positioned for future leadership roles, promotion to higher ranks, and greater responsibilities within the UPDF,” he said.

The four-month course is designed to strengthen leadership capacity, enhance operational effectiveness, and prepare Junior NCOs to competently execute their duties in both conventional and modern military operations.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Lugore Training School Commandant, instructional staff, staff officers from the 4 Infantry Division, and other invited guests.
