UPDF, Police and Prisons Join Nakawa Community in Tarehe Sita Clean-Up Drive

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), together with the Uganda Police Force (UPF) and Uganda Prisons Service (UPS), carried out a series of community service activities across Nakawa Division on Monday as part of the nationwide commemoration of the 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary.

Operations in Nakawa, Bugolobi, and Kasokoso included sweeping market areas and roads, cleaning trenches, and collecting garbage.

The initiatives are part of the Tarehe Sita Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) week, held annually to mark the launch of the 1981 liberation struggle.

Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Brig Gen Abdul Rugumayo, flagged off the activities, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with communities and reflecting on Uganda’s journey of liberation and transformation.

“This period allows soldiers who participated in the liberation of this country to engage directly with the people. We remind them that the stability and development they enjoy today are the result of sacrifices made 45 years ago,” Rugumayo said.

Local leaders praised the security agencies for their ongoing community support. LC1 Chairman of Kasokoso Katale, Ali Mwamba, acknowledged previous contributions including health center construction, road grading, and fumigation campaigns. Nakawa Market trader Mudasi Joseph said the engagements strengthen trust and civil-military relations.

The main national Tarehe Sita celebrations will be held on 6 February 2026 in Kabale District, with ongoing activities in the Kigezi sub-region, including Kabale, Kisoro, Rukungiri, Rukiga, Rubanda, and Kanungu.
