Condolences are pouring in from across the Karamoja sub-region following the death of prominent businessman and entrepreneur Cornelius Lorika Kodet.
His passing has sent shockwaves through communities that knew him as a trailblazer, a mentor, and a symbol of success.
Residents say Kodet inspired many through his exceptional business acumen and his commitment to uplifting the region.
Oscar Kanyangareng Okech, a resident of Abim District, described Kodet as “one of our very own successful veteran entrepreneurs.”
“We have lost a giant. The region has lost an icon in entrepreneurship.”
Similar sentiments were shared by Philips Sagal, who referred to Kodet as “an eminent elder and an inspiration to Uganda.”
He said the late will be dearly missed and urged the family to remain strong during this difficult period.
Ben Angolere said Kodet’s death has brought “great sadness” to the family and the wider community, noting that he will be greatly missed.
Dr. Loyce Faith Nangiro described Kodet as a man who dearly loved Karamoja, adding that his generosity and impact will be remembered for generations.
Another resident, Simon Lomoe, said the news of Kodet’s death was heartbreaking and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
Regional leaders have also joined residents in mourning the fallen entrepreneur. Former Napak District Chairperson Joseph Lomonyang said Kodet’s legacy will continue to shine across Karamoja and beyond.
Family members remain deeply shaken. Maggie Awas Lokii, a family representative and assistant manager at the late’s Mount Moroto Hotel, said the entire family is still in shock.
“This is a very tough time for us,” she said.
Throughout his life, Kodet ventured into several businesses, with Aero Beach in Entebbe being among his most well-known establishments.
Many credit him for creating employment opportunities and contributing significantly to tourism and hospitality in the country.
A tentative funeral schedule indicates that a funeral service will be held at All Saints Cathedral Kampala on December, 10, 2025, after which the body will be taken to his home in Entebbe for a vigil.
On December, 11, the procession will move to his residence in Mbale, and on December, 12, the body will be transported to Lomorunyanga Village in Namalu Sub-county, his final resting place. Burial will take place on December, 14.
Kodet leaves behind a legacy of entrepreneurship, generosity, and community upliftment—one that many say will never be forgotten.
